Omnicom Group is moving ahead with a major consolidation within its Omnicom Public Relations Group (OPRG) by merging two of its established public relations agencies, Golin and Ketchum, into a single global entity, according to internal communications circulated last week. The decision marks a significant realignment in the holding company’s PR portfolio following its acquisition of the Interpublic Group (IPG).
Unified Leadership for Combined PR Firm
As part of the integration plan, Matt Neale, current CEO of Golin, will serve as CEO of the combined organisation, while Tamara Norman, global leader of Ketchum, has been appointed Global President of the merged firm. During an initial transition phase, both agencies are expected to continue operating under their own brand names, even as operations and leadership structures move toward unification.
Details on which brand name will ultimately be retained — whether a single legacy title or a new market identity — remain undecided, and the company has not yet provided clarity on potential job impacts linked to the merger.
Strategic Context Behind the Move
The merger reflects a broader strategic initiative within Omnicom to tighten integration across its PR and communications services following the IPG deal, which brought networks such as Golin — previously part of IPG — together with long-standing Omnicom brands like Ketchum.
This effort mirrors earlier portfolio reshuffling, such as the folding of Porter Novelli into FleishmanHillard, where Porter Novelli now operates as a dedicated brand within the larger agency rather than as an independent standalone entity.
Leadership Vision for Unified Practice
In a memo to teams shared internally, Chris Foster, CEO of Omnicom Public Relations Group, emphasised the rationale for the consolidation, noting that the two agencies share aligned strengths across corporate affairs, reputation management, and purpose-led communications. According to Foster, the merger is intended to enhance coordination, amplify expertise across markets, and deliver more consistent client outcomes.
Foster added that year-one expectations focus on ensuring no disruption to client work, while improving access to specialised capabilities and fostering closer collaboration across teams.
Industry Implications and Ongoing Integration
The decision to merge Golin and Ketchum comes amid broader shifts in the global communications landscape, where holding companies are increasingly seeking scale and operational efficiency through consolidation. Analysts note that integrated PR and corporate communications services align with client demand for unified counsel across reputation, brand purpose, and market impact.
The change also aligns with Omnicom’s organisational reinvention following the IPG acquisition, a landmark transaction that has reshaped the competitive dynamics of global advertising, marketing, and public relations.
Clients of both agencies have been assured that day-to-day service continuity will be maintained as the integration proceeds through 2026.
