Entrepreneur and content creator Ankur Warikoo has announced that he is shutting down his online courses business, despite building it into a ₹100 crore venture since its inception in 2020.

In a post shared on social media, Warikoo revealed that the business had scaled significantly over the past few years, enrolling over 5 lakh students, generating ₹100 crore in revenue and ₹25 crore in profits. However, he stated that continuing the venture “makes no sense” at this stage, without elaborating on the reasons behind the decision.

He added that he will share further details about the rationale and next steps in a detailed update scheduled for May 16 at 8:30 PM.

Warikoo, the former CEO of Nearbuy (previously Groupon India), transitioned into a full-time content creator, author, and educator in recent years. He built a strong personal brand through content focused on personal finance, career growth, productivity, and self-improvement, amassing millions of followers across platforms.

During the pandemic in 2020, Warikoo launched a series of cohort-based online courses covering topics such as entrepreneurship, time management, and financial literacy. These courses quickly gained traction, driven by his social media influence and the rising demand for online learning.

His courses became a key revenue stream, positioning him among India’s most prominent edu-creators in the rapidly expanding creator economy. The model typically involved structured, time-bound learning experiences combined with community engagement, distinguishing it from traditional pre-recorded online courses.

The announcement to shut down the business comes at a time when India’s online education and creator-led learning space is undergoing shifts, with increasing competition, evolving consumer expectations, and questions around long-term scalability of cohort-based models.

Warikoo’s decision is likely to spark conversations within the creator and edtech ecosystem about sustainability, business focus, and the future of personal brand-led education ventures.
