The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Laqshya Media Group to handle the opening and closing ceremonies, mid-innings entertainment and fan engagement initiatives for the Tata Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026.
Under the mandate, the company will oversee the complete in-stadium spectator experience across all 22 matches of the tournament, including the design and execution of engagement formats aimed at enhancing match-day atmosphere and audience interaction.
First major women’s tournament after World Cup triumph
The upcoming edition of the WPL will mark the first major women’s cricket tournament in India since the national team’s victory at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, adding to the league’s visibility and expectations this season.
According to the organisers, the league will begin with an opening ceremony featuring actor Jacqueline Fernandez, while the closing ceremony will include a live performance by rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh.
Entertainment across all match intervals
Beyond the opening and closing shows, Laqshya Media Group will curate mid-innings entertainment at every fixture. This will include live artist performances, technology-driven elements such as drone and laser displays, and traditional on-ground activations including brass bands and direct fan interactions inside stadiums.
The objective, officials said, is to create a consistent and immersive experience for spectators throughout the tournament.
Nationwide out-of-home campaign planned
As part of the mandate, the group will also roll out a nationwide out-of-home (OOH) marketing campaign for the league. This will feature digital and static branding installations across major metropolitan cities, state capitals and airports, extending the tournament’s visibility beyond stadium venues into public spaces.
“Sport in India is deeply felt,” says Alok Jalan
Commenting on the association, Alok Jalan, chairman and managing director of Laqshya Media Group, said the company aims to build long-term engagement platforms around Indian sport.
“India is a country where sport is not just watched; it is deeply felt. At Laqshya, our focus is on building meaningful, scalable sporting experiences that go far beyond one tournament or one season,” Jalan said.
He added that the Women’s Premier League represents a pivotal moment for women’s sport in the country.
“The Women’s Premier League is a defining moment for women’s sport in India, and we are committed to creating platforms, visibility, and fan engagement models that will continue to elevate Indian sport for years to come,” he said.
