E-commerce major Flipkart has expanded its content-commerce strategy by entering the growing microdrama segment through a partnership with Tencent-backed storytelling platform Pratilipi and media company Terribly Tiny Tales (TTT), according to a report by The Economic Times.
The new offering has been integrated into Flipkart’s main shopping app under the ‘Play’ section. The section houses Explore, Flipkart’s content-led shopping discovery platform, alongside a dedicated microdrama vertical called ‘Drama’.
According to people familiar with the development cited by ET, the initiative is aimed at increasing user engagement and time spent on the platform, particularly ahead of the upcoming festive shopping season, one of the most important periods for India’s e-commerce industry.
The microdrama feed currently features short-form scripted content from TTT and Double Tap Films, as well as titles from Pratilipi’s in-house microdrama studio. The format, which typically comprises bite-sized, episodic stories designed for mobile consumption, has been gaining popularity globally, particularly among younger audiences.
Flipkart’s move reflects the broader evolution of content commerce, with e-commerce platforms increasingly exploring entertainment as a way to keep consumers engaged beyond conventional product browsing and transactions.
By bringing episodic entertainment directly into its shopping ecosystem, Flipkart is looking to create new discovery and engagement touchpoints while potentially building a stronger connection with younger, mobile-first audiences.
The development also comes nearly a year after Flipkart acquired a majority stake in digital entertainment and lifestyle platform Pinkvilla in September 2025. The acquisition had highlighted the company’s growing interest in strengthening its content capabilities and expanding its engagement with younger consumers.
With microdramas now entering the shopping experience, Flipkart appears to be taking that strategy a step further—bringing entertainment, discovery and commerce under one digital ecosystem.
