E-commerce platform Meesho has appointed Sudhir Ganesh Sitapati, former Managing Director and CEO of Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL), as an Additional Director in the capacity of Non-Executive Independent Director.
The appointment was approved by Meesho’s board on October 28, 2026, following a recommendation from the Nomination and Remuneration Committee at its meeting on October 16. Sitapati’s five-year term runs from October 28, 2026, to October 27, 2031, subject to shareholder approval.
Sitapati brings more than 25 years of experience in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and consumer goods industry, with expertise spanning sales, marketing, brand building and general management across Indian and international markets.
He served as Managing Director and CEO of GCPL from October 2021 to August 2026, resigning on August 11, just days after shareholders approved his reappointment for another five-year term beginning October 18, 2026. Aasif Malbari, who was GCPL’s Chief Financial Officer at the time, succeeded him in the role.
Career across HUL and GCPL
Before joining GCPL, Sitapati spent more than two decades at Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL), where he served as Executive Director, Foods and Refreshments. During his tenure, he led the merger and integration of GSK Consumer Healthcare with HUL and held assignments across India, Europe, Southeast Asia and Africa.
Sitapati is currently an Independent Director on the board of Asian Paints Limited. He has also chaired the Confederation of Indian Industry’s FMCG Committee, co-chaired its National Committee on Food Processing and served on Flipkart’s advisory board.
He is the author of The CEO Factory: Management Lessons from Hindustan Unilever, which examines management practices and leadership development at the consumer goods company.
Education and recognition
Sitapati completed the Post Graduate Programme in Management at IIM Ahmedabad in 1999 and holds a BSc in Mathematics with Economics Honours from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai.
In 2017, he received IIM Ahmedabad’s Young Alumni Achiever’s Award in the Corporate Leadership category.
