The controversy surrounding Galgotias University’s showcase of a robotic dog named ‘Orion’ at a recent AI Summit faced a huge online backlash. Now the university is reaching out to influcners, Shubham Gaur shared a screenshot of an alleged brand collaboration email on Instagram.

Gaur posted the screenshot on his Instagram story, claiming it was sent to him in the wake of the summit controversy.

According to the image shared, the email invited him for a brand collaboration and mentioned specific deliverables, including posting a reel described as “non-collab.”

The intensifying scrutiny around the university’s handling of the situation. Many users questioned the timing and nature of the outreach, particularly as the institution was already facing criticism over claims that ‘Orion’ had been developed in-house.

The AI Summit controversy began after a televised interaction with DD News, where a university representative stated that the robotic dog had been developed by its Centre of Excellence.

Soon after, online users alleged that the robot resembled a commercially available model manufactured by Unitree Robotics, which retails for around $1,600.

As backlash mounted, Galgotias University issued a public apology on February 18, stating that the representative was “ill-informed” and “not authorised to speak to the press.”

The university added that there was “no institutional intent to misrepresent this innovation” and confirmed it had vacated the summit premises.
