Sambit Mohanty is set to leave McCann Worldgroup after a six-and-a-half-year stint at the agency, sources have confirmed. Mohanty most recently served as Executive Vice President and Creative Head of McCann’s Bengaluru office, while also overseeing creative leadership for the agency’s North and South operations.
His departure marks the end of a significant chapter at McCann Worldgroup, where he played a key role in shaping award-winning campaigns for a diverse portfolio of brands, including Dettol, Nescafé, Campa, Ujjivan Small Finance Bank, Britannia Good Day, Yes Bank, Flipkart, and Wadhwani AI.
Among the highlights of his tenure was the widely acclaimed ‘Shagun Ka Lifafa’ campaign for Ujjivan Small Finance Bank, which transformed traditional cash-gifting envelopes used at weddings into bank account opening forms for women. The campaign earned a Cannes Lions Gold and a Grand Clio, garnering international recognition for its blend of creativity and social impact.
Mohanty also contributed to ESAF Bank’s ‘Dabba Savings Account’ initiative, which won a Grand Effie. The campaign drew inspiration from the practice of women storing emergency savings in rice containers and introduced a specially designed dual-compartment rice box with a hidden savings section. The initiative aimed to promote financial inclusion among unbanked rural and marginalised women.
His exit comes months after McCann Worldgroup became part of Omnicom following the completion of Omnicom’s acquisition of Interpublic Group (IPG) in December 2025.
Before joining McCann in 2020, Mohanty spent nearly three years at JWT (now VML) as National Creative Director. Over a career spanning more than two decades, he has held leadership roles across some of the industry’s leading agencies, including DDB Mudra Group, Bates Asia, Elephant Design, Leo Burnett, Vyas Giannetti Creative, Publicis Advertising, and Lowe Lintas.
Notably, this was Mohanty’s third stint with McCann Worldgroup, further underscoring his long-standing association with the agency.
