Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has acquired the exclusive media rights for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, securing broadcast and digital coverage of the multi-sport event across the Indian subcontinent.
Scheduled to take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, 2026, the 23rd edition of the Commonwealth Games will be televised live on Sony Sports Network channels and streamed on Sony LIV.
The Games will feature 10 sports alongside an integrated Para sport programme comprising 47 medal events across six disciplines. The sporting roster includes athletics, swimming, artistic gymnastics, track cycling, netball, weightlifting, boxing, judo, bowls and 3x3 basketball.
India enters the competition after finishing fourth at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games with a tally of 61 medals, including 22 golds.
Commenting on the acquisition, Rajesh Kaul, chief revenue officer and business head – Sports and International at Sony Pictures Networks India, said the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games reinforces Sony Sports Network's position as a destination for premium live sports in India.
"The Commonwealth Games occupies a unique place in India's sporting landscape, with every edition inspiring extraordinary performances. As India looks to build on its success at Birmingham 2022, Glasgow 2026 promises compelling competition and unforgettable sporting moments. We are committed to delivering a world-class broadcast through comprehensive, multilingual coverage and expert storytelling, ensuring fans don't miss a single moment of India's medal pursuit," Kaul said.
Katie Sadleir, chief executive of Commonwealth Sport, welcomed the continuation of the partnership with SPNI, saying the broadcaster's coverage would help millions of Indian viewers follow the athletes and stories from Glasgow 2026.
She also noted that the 2026 edition marks the beginning of a new chapter for Commonwealth Sport, with attention already turning towards the Centenary Commonwealth Games, scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad in 2030.
The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will officially begin on July 23, with the opening day's coverage set to start at 1 pm IST.
