JioStar has officially rebranded ESPNcricinfo as Cricinfo, marking a return to the platform's original name nearly three decades after its launch.
The move forms part of the operational changes following the merger between Reliance Industries and The Walt Disney Company’s India businesses, which was completed in November 2024. According to the company, the rebranding is in line with the terms agreed upon as part of the merger.
With the transition, the platform will now operate under the Cricinfo name across its website and mobile applications. Existing users will continue to have uninterrupted access, with visits to espncricinfo.com and previously saved links automatically redirecting to the rebranded platform.
Commenting on the development, Sambit Bal, editor-in-chief of Cricinfo, said the platform would continue to focus on serving cricket fans worldwide while staying true to its founding principles.
“The next phase of evolution will include AI-powered innovations to enhance our storytelling, which, as ever, will stay rooted in originality,” Bal said.
Originally founded in 1993 as Cricinfo, the platform has grown into one of the world's most comprehensive cricket destinations, housing an archive that spans more than three decades of the sport. The rebranding signals a return to its roots while setting the stage for future product and editorial developments.
