TV Today Network, the company behind news brands such as India Today and Aaj Tak, has reportedly laid off around 120 employees as part of a restructuring exercise, according to a report by NewsLaundry.
The report claimed that employees across multiple verticals, including the Aaj Tak Hindi website, camera operations, video editing, graphics, fact-checking, the Data Intelligence Unit, Aaj Tak Radio and parts of the India Today English web team, were asked to resign between July 20 and July 24.
Citing employees, NewsLaundry reported that many staff members were called into meetings with their managers and HR representatives, informed that it was their last working day, and asked to submit their resignations immediately. Those who complied were reportedly offered two months' full salary, while employees who refused to resign were allegedly terminated and offered two months' basic salary. NewsLaundry said it could not independently verify these claims.
Several employees who spoke to the publication alleged that the process was carried out without prior notice or detailed explanations. Some claimed they were not allowed to meet colleagues after submitting their resignations, while others said they were stopped at the office entrance when returning later to hand over company assets.
According to the report, resignations were processed through the HR platform Keka, with employees selecting reasons such as "restructuring" or "others". Some reportedly stated that they were resigning at the direction of management.
NewsLaundry also cited a senior employee as saying the company is under financial pressure and that additional rounds of restructuring may follow. The report further noted that six employees associated with India Today magazine were reportedly laid off in May under a similar process.
The reported layoffs come after TV Today Network witnessed a sharp decline in its financial performance in the previous financial year. According to the report, the company posted an 81% drop in annual net profit to nearly ₹14 crore, while revenue declined 19% to around ₹807 crore, amid subdued advertising revenues, restructuring costs and losses in its radio business.
