The Estée Lauder Companies has announced plans to acquire the remaining stake in Indian luxury Ayurveda brand Forest Essentials, deepening a partnership that has evolved over nearly two decades. The transaction, subject to regulatory approvals, is expected to close in the second half of 2026.
Estée Lauder first invested in Forest Essentials in 2008 with a minority stake, which it later increased to 49% in 2020. The latest move will give the global beauty company full ownership of the brand.
Founded in 2000 by Mira Kulkarni, Forest Essentials operates in the luxury Ayurvedic beauty segment with a portfolio spanning skincare and wellness products. The brand has built its identity around modern interpretations of traditional Ayurvedic formulations and retail experiences, and currently runs close to 200 standalone stores across India.
Following the acquisition, Forest Essentials will continue to operate from New Delhi. Kulkarni will remain closely involved with the brand alongside her son, Samrath Bedi. The company’s integrated operations in India—including research and development, sourcing of botanical ingredients, and in-house manufacturing—will remain unchanged.
According to Estée Lauder, the acquisition reflects its continued confidence in the Indian market and in Forest Essentials’ brand equity and long-term growth potential. The company also expects to support the brand’s international expansion by leveraging its global distribution network and brand-building capabilities.
Commenting on the development, Stéphane de La Faverie said the next phase of the partnership builds on nearly two decades of collaboration and reinforces the company’s commitment to growing the brand in India while gradually expanding its global presence.
Mira Kulkarni added that the strengthened partnership will allow Forest Essentials to combine its Ayurvedic heritage with Estée Lauder’s global expertise, with the aim of bringing luxury Ayurveda to a wider international audience while continuing to operate from India.
