KRAFTON has partnered with Netflix to develop a live-action series based on its popular battle royale video game franchise, PUBG (PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds). The series will be led by Donald Glover, who will serve as its writer, director, executive producer and lead actor.
Glover, a two-time Emmy and Golden Globe winner, is best known for his work on television series such as Atlanta and Community. His brother, Stephen Glover, will also join the project as a writer and executive producer. The two have previously collaborated on Atlanta.
The project will additionally see Michael Schaefer of NEON TV and Fam Udeorji of Gilga serve as executive producers. Representing LV3H, KRAFTON’s entertainment division, will be Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee.
LV3H will oversee the development and production of the adaptation. The project is part of KRAFTON’s broader strategy to take its gaming intellectual properties beyond the gaming ecosystem and develop them into original entertainment formats.
PUBG is among the most recognised gaming franchises globally and played a significant role in popularising the battle royale genre, where players compete until only one individual or team remains. The franchise has also secured seven Guinness World Records, underscoring its impact on global gaming culture.
Since its launch, PUBG has evolved into a global entertainment property, with its Netflix adaptation marking another step in its expansion into scripted content. The move also reflects the growing interest among streaming platforms in adapting established gaming franchises, allowing them to engage existing fan communities while reaching audiences beyond gaming.
KRAFTON operates a network of 19 creative studios, with a portfolio that includes PUBG, Subnautica and inZOI. The company is also exploring emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to develop new gaming experiences.
