Diageo India has unveiled a refreshed visual identity and an upgraded blend for McDowell’s No.1, marking a new phase in the 125-year-old brand’s journey as it responds to evolving consumer preferences in India’s beverage alcohol market.

The revamp reflects the growing emphasis on quality, craftsmanship and brand experience in India’s whisky category, alongside affordability. With the latest evolution, McDowell’s No.1 aims to reinforce its position in the mass-premium segment while retaining the familiarity and legacy it has built over the decades.

At the centre of the transformation is an upgraded blend comprising select imported Scotch, Indian malts and premium grain spirits. According to Diageo India, the blend is matured in select oak and American barrels and draws on blending expertise spanning India and Scotland.

Alongside the product upgrade, the brand has introduced a redesigned bottle and a refreshed visual identity intended to give McDowell’s No.1 a more contemporary and premium presence on retail shelves.

The revamp follows consumer research conducted across 11 markets, involving more than 10,000 consumers. Diageo India said the findings informed its approach to evolving the brand in line with the expectations of a new generation of consumers.

Commenting on the transformation, Ruchira Jaitly, chief marketing officer at Diageo India, said the evolution responds to changing expectations around quality, craftsmanship and experience while preserving the trust and familiarity the brand has built over decades.

With annual sales exceeding 30 million cases, McDowell’s No.1 continues to be a significant player in India’s beverage alcohol market. The latest relaunch underlines Diageo India’s strategy of evolving established brands to reflect changing consumer preferences and the growing importance of premium experiences.

The refreshed identity and upgraded blend mark the next chapter in McDowell’s No.1’s 125-year history, bringing together its established heritage and a contemporary proposition for today’s consumers.
