YouTube Music is introducing labels to help listeners identify songs created primarily using generative artificial intelligence (AI), offering greater transparency around the use of AI in music production.

The labels will appear directly on the player page when a track has been created with significant AI involvement, such as using generative models to produce its composition and vocals. Listeners can tap the label to access additional information about the track.

The rollout follows listener demand for greater clarity around AI-generated content as generative AI tools become increasingly prevalent in music creation. The labels will also be introduced on the main YouTube app.

To identify AI-generated tracks, YouTube is working with its music partners and deploying its own detection tools. The initiative follows the platform’s existing approach to labelling AI-generated content, aimed at helping viewers and listeners understand how the content they consume has been created.

The company said the initiative is intended to make information about AI’s role in music more accessible to listeners.

YouTube has also outlined its disclosure guidelines and standards through its Help Centre, providing further details on how AI-generated content is identified and labelled across the platform.
