The Hindu Group Publishing Private Limited (THGPPL) has appointed N. Murali as chairman of its board of directors for a three-year term.
Murali succeeds Nirmala Lakshman, who stepped down as chairperson at the company's board meeting held on June 18, 2026, as she approached the completion of her three-year tenure. His appointment was unanimously recommended by the Nomination and Remuneration Committee and subsequently approved by the Board.
A seasoned media executive with over 56 years of experience in management, business and finance, Murali joined The Hindu's family business in 1969. Over the decades, he has held several leadership positions, including General Manager, Joint Managing Director, Managing Director of Kasturi & Sons, and Chairman of the company.
Beyond his contributions to The Hindu Group, Murali has played a significant role in shaping India's media and publishing ecosystem. He has served as President of the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) and held leadership positions at the Audit Bureau of Circulations, Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI), National Readership Studies Council, and the Press Institute of India-RIND. Internationally, he has served on the boards of IFRA and the World Association of Newspapers (WAN).
Murali currently serves as a trustee of the Media Development Foundation, which administers the Asian College of Journalism (ACJ), and is President of The Music Academy, Madras.
The Board of THGPPL expressed its appreciation for Lakshman's leadership and contributions during her tenure and conveyed confidence that Murali's extensive experience and deep understanding of the evolving media landscape will help steer the organisation through its next phase of growth.
