Tata Communications Limited, a major global communications technology company and part of the Tata Group, has named Siddhartha Mundra as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the company announced on February 10. The Board of Directors approved his appointment at a meeting held that day, following recommendations from the company’s Nomination and Remuneration Committee and Audit Committee.
Mundra will join the company as CFO-Designate on February 23, 2026, and formally assume full responsibilities as CFO on May 1, 2026.
Leadership Endorsement and Vision
Commenting on the announcement, A.S. Lakshminarayanan, Managing Director & CEO of Tata Communications, said Mundra’s extensive expertise and leadership track record make him a “tremendous addition to Tata Communications leadership as we continue to drive transformation and create long-term value for all our stakeholders.”
Echoing that enthusiasm, Siddhartha Mundra said he is “honored to join Tata Communications and look forward to working with the leadership to accelerate our strategic ambitions, further strengthen our financial foundation and contribute to the Company’s continued growth.”
Professional Background and Expertise
Mundra brings over 22 years of diversified experience across corporate finance, business strategy, operations, private equity and technology. Before his appointment at Tata Communications, he served as Vice President in the Group CFO & Group Strategy Office at Tata Sons — the holding company of the Tata Group — a role he assumed in December 2020.
Earlier in his career, Mundra was Chief Executive Officer of Shankara Building Products Limited, and also held senior leadership positions such as Director at Fairwinds Private Equity and Associate Vice President at ICICI Venture. He began his career as a software engineer with Cisco Systems in Bengaluru.
On the academic front, he holds a PGDM from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and graduated with a Gold Medal in B.Tech Computer Science from the National Institute of Technology, Warangal.
Transition Plan and Strategic Implications
The structured transition to fully instal Mundra as CFO aligns with Tata Communications’ broader agenda to strengthen financial governance as it advances its global digital and connectivity ambitions. His appointment follows the company’s board meeting on February 10, 2026, where the leadership change was formally approved.
Kabir Ahmed Shakir, the current CFO, will continue in his role until April 30, 2026, providing continuity ahead of Mundra’s full takeover.
Analysts and industry watchers say the change underscores Tata Communications’ focus on deepening its financial leadership bench at a time when enterprise digital demand and telecom transformation remain key growth drivers for the company’s business strategy.
