Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has elevated Makarand Palekar to the role of Head – Linear Distribution as part of its recently revamped leadership structure, strengthening its focus on distribution strategy across its linear television portfolio.

The move comes amid broader organisational changes aimed at aligning content, distribution and monetisation more closely as the media landscape continues to evolve.

Over a decade with Sony Pictures Networks India

Palekar has been associated with SPNI since 2010 and is widely regarded for his deep expertise in television sales and distribution. Over the years, he has played a key role in strengthening the network’s affiliate partnerships and expanding its distribution footprint across markets.

Experience at TheOneAlliance

Before joining SPNI, Palekar served as Senior Vice President – Sales and Affiliate Relations at TheOneAlliance, the distribution joint venture between Multi Screen Media (MSM) and Discovery Communications. In that role, he was responsible for managing sales strategy and affiliate relationships for the combined portfolio, contributing to revenue growth and market consolidation.

Early career at ESPN-STAR Sports

Earlier in his career, Palekar was associated with ESPN-STAR Sports, where he was part of the network’s start-up team in India. He headed sales operations during the formative years of the business and played a pivotal role in building the network’s commercial presence.

By the time he moved to TheOneAlliance, Palekar had accumulated nearly 13 years of experience across television sales and distribution, establishing himself as a seasoned professional in affiliate management and revenue development.

In his new role at SPNI, he is expected to drive the network’s linear distribution strategy amid increasing competition and a rapidly shifting broadcast and digital ecosystem.
