Seema Ahuja has retired from Biocon, bringing to a close a 14-year tenure during which she played a pivotal role in shaping the communications and corporate brand narrative of the Biocon Group and Biocon Biologics.
Ahuja, who served as Global Head of Communications & Corporate Brand, joined the company in 2011 as it was strengthening its identity as a science-led organisation with global ambitions. Over the years, she was instrumental in articulating Biocon’s evolution into a global biopharmaceutical player, supporting its expansion into regulated markets such as the US and Europe and the growth of its biosimilars business through Biocon Biologics.
Throughout her tenure, she led communications across key milestones including leadership messaging, annual reports, crisis management, and major business announcements. Her role gained increasing significance as Biocon engaged with global regulators, partners, and investors—requiring consistent, credible communication aligned with its international aspirations.
Her time at the company coincided with rapid expansion, strategic partnerships, and critical phases such as the Covid-19 pandemic. Over the years, her mandate evolved beyond communication management to anchoring the company’s reputation across markets and geographies.
Internally, Ahuja was known for fostering alignment across teams and functions, while externally she helped position Biocon as a global biopharmaceutical brand rather than just an Indian enterprise. Her contributions earned her over 50 awards and recognitions.
In her farewell note, Ahuja reflected on the importance of people in any journey, highlighting that while achievements matter, the individuals behind them matter even more.
As she steps into a new phase, Ahuja leaves behind a communications function and legacy deeply intertwined with Biocon’s growth over the past decade and a half.
