Pocket FM has appointed artificial intelligence researcher Vasu Sharma as its new head of AI, strengthening the audio storytelling platform’s push to scale AI-led content creation and global expansion.
Sharma, who was previously part of Meta’s Facebook AI Research (FAIR) division, will report to Pocket FM co-founder Prateek Dixit and lead the company’s AI research and applied innovation roadmap.
Driving AI-led storytelling and production
In his new role, Sharma will oversee initiatives spanning narrative generation, production intelligence and large-scale localisation, with the objective of deepening Pocket FM’s AI-powered storytelling and content development capabilities.
A key part of his mandate will be to advance Pocket FM’s proprietary AI CoPilot and its in-house large language models, known as Pocket LLMs, which support story ideation, drafting, plot structuring, editing, emotional toning and multi-language adaptation.
He will also work on building fiction-specific AI models and expanding AI-assisted production workflows, while ensuring that creative decision-making remains human-led.
Extensive background in large language and multimodal models
Before joining Pocket FM, Sharma worked with Meta AI on several large-scale multimodal and language model programmes, including Llama, Chameleon, MaVIL and audio-video foundation models.
Across his academic and industry career, he has published more than 90 research papers at leading global conferences such as NeurIPS, CVPR, ACL, EMNLP and ICLR, and has accumulated over 10,000 citations.
Sharma outlines vision for AI-powered fiction ecosystem
Commenting on his appointment, Sharma said Pocket FM offered a rare opportunity to combine artificial intelligence with large-scale creative storytelling.
“Pocket FM sits at a rare intersection of AI, creativity and global storytelling. Very few companies in the world have this combination of scale, AI and a mature creator ecosystem,” he said.
“With a clear vision to build the world’s best AI-powered fiction writing model, the opportunity to develop fiction-native systems, creator-centric AI tools, and large-scale multimodal storytelling infrastructure on top of this foundation is incredibly exciting,” Sharma added.
Outlining his priorities, he said his focus would be on strengthening Pocket FM’s underlying language models and creator tools.
“My focus will be to advance the Pocket LLMs and evolve the AI CoPilot into the definitive creative assistant for writers everywhere, helping them ideate richer plots, preserve voice and emotional cadence, and localise stories with cultural precision,” he said.
“Our ultimate objective is to unlock a new generation of IPs, powered by AI and enabled by humans.”
Pocket FM bets on creator-first AI strategy
Prateek Dixit, co-founder of Pocket FM, said Sharma’s experience in long-form and multimodal AI research would play a critical role in shaping the company’s next phase of growth.
“Vasu brings world-class AI research experience, and his expertise in multimodal and long-form language models will significantly accelerate our creator-first AI vision,” Dixit said.
“At Pocket FM, we believe AI should elevate imagination and not replace it. With Vasu leading our AI charter, we are poised to build more powerful versions of our AI CoPilot, advance our Pocket LLMs, and expand our ability to take stories global with cultural precision and scale,” he added.
