Castrol India has appointed Saugata Basuray as Managing Director of the company for a five-year term beginning June 1, 2026, according to a regulatory filing.
Basuray is currently serving as Whole-time Director and Interim Chief Executive Officer at Castrol India. The appointment was approved by the company’s Board of Directors following the recommendation of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee.
A company veteran with over 26 years of experience, Basuray joined Castrol India as a Management Trainee in 1999 after completing his MBA from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM).
Over the years, he has held leadership roles across sales, marketing and business operations in multiple international markets. He has worked across four countries and served in several strategic positions within the Castrol network.
Earlier in his career, Basuray worked as Executive Assistant to the Managing Director of Castrol India and later served as Regional Vice President at BP. In 2008, he moved to Castrol’s global headquarters in the UK, where he was part of the marketing team behind the development of Castrol Edge as a global brand.
Following his return to India, he led the company’s B2B sales operations before taking over as Head of Marketing for Castrol India. He also served as the head of Castrol Philippines between 2013 and 2017 and later became Managing Director of Castrol’s joint venture operations in Indonesia.
Before being appointed Interim CEO, Basuray was Whole-time Director and Head-B2C Business at Castrol India, where he led the transformation of the company’s go-to-market strategy and expanded its distribution network across rural India.
Basuray holds an Engineering degree from the University of Pune and an MBA from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management.
