Google Cloud has appointed Amit Kumar as the interim head of its India business, following the exit of Sashikumar Sreedharan from the company. The leadership transition was confirmed by Karan Bajwa, President, Asia Pacific, Google Cloud, through a LinkedIn post. Welcoming Kumar into the interim role, Bajwa said the company’s focus would remain on building on the strong momentum it has created in India.

According to media reports, Sreedharan is set to join homegrown AI company Sarvam AI as its President and Chief Business Officer.

Kumar has been with Google Cloud since March 2021, when he joined the company as Sales Director. He currently serves as Managing Director, Digital Native Business, where he works closely with digital businesses and startups across India.

Prior to joining Google Cloud, Kumar was Country Sales Manager, Enterprise and Education, India, at Apple. Before Apple, he served as Director, Software, India and South Asia, at IBM, where he was responsible for the company’s integrated cloud and software business.

Kumar also spent 13+ years at Microsoft, where he held several leadership positions, including General Manager, Small and Mid-Market Solutions and Partners.

Earlier in his career, Sreedharan was the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Happiest Minds Technologies. With Kumar taking charge on an interim basis, Google Cloud’s India business enters its next phase of leadership as the company continues to build on its presence across the country’s rapidly expanding digital and startup ecosystem.
