Japanese office furniture major Kokuyo Workplace India Ltd. today set an Asia Book of Records record by hosting India's largest workplace chair yoga and wellness session at its Nagpur manufacturing facility on International Yoga Day. Bringing together 594 employees and family members, the initiative highlighted the company's commitment to employee well-being while setting a new benchmark for participation in workplace wellness. In addition to earning recognition from the Asia Book of Records, the event also served as Kokuyo's attempt to enter the Limca Book of Records under the category of “Most People Performing Yoga in Chairs at a Single Venue.”
Commenting on the initiative, Karan Sachdev, Managing Director, Kokuyo India, said, “At Kokuyo, we see seating as a critical enabler of workplace performance. From ergonomic task chairs designed to support comfort and posture to unique seating concepts that encourage movement and collaboration, our products are built around how people actually work. What was especially encouraging today was witnessing the enthusiasm with which participants came together and embraced a workplace-centred approach to wellbeing. The chair yoga initiative reinforces a simple idea: everyday workplace products can do much more than serve a functional purpose. They can shape better work experiences and support the changing needs of today's workforce.”
Unlike conventional yoga sessions conducted on mats or open grounds, Kokuyo's record attempt was designed entirely around the workplace setting. Participants remained seated on Fluence, Kokuyo's flagship ergonomic chair, throughout the 30-minute session, without leaving their seats at any point.
Guided by a certified yoga instructor, the large-scale wellness session comprised simple chair-based yoga postures, seated stretches, posture-alignment movements, breathing exercises and mindfulness routines designed specifically for workplace settings. The exercises aimed to address common workplace challenges, including stress, mental fatigue, posture-related discomfort and overall well-being. The format was kept simple and easy to practise within an office seating environment.
At the Nagpur facility, the initiative took on a more immediate, on-ground significance. “The overwhelming participation and energy we witnessed today made this initiative truly special. Bringing together employees and family members under one roof reflected not only a shared commitment to wellbeing but also the collaborative spirit of our Nagpur facility. As Kokuyo's manufacturing hub in India, this state-of-the-art campus combines global design expertise with local manufacturing excellence to deliver workplace solutions tailored to evolving customer needs. The same philosophy guided today's event: creating environments that help people connect, collaborate and perform at their best,” said Amit Dhawan, Plant Head, Kokuyo India (Nagpur).
Kokuyo hopes the success of the programme inspires more organisations to embed wellbeing into workplace culture in ways that are simple, consistent and inclusive.
