KKR and BookMyShow have entered into definitive agreements under which funds managed by KKR will acquire a minority stake in the entertainment ticketing and experiences platform.

The investment is expected to support BookMyShow’s next phase of growth, with a focus on scaling its live entertainment business and strengthening its full-stack offering across the Indian market.

Akshay Tanna, Partner and Head of India Private Equity at KKR, said the firm is pleased to support BookMyShow as it expands India’s out-of-home entertainment ecosystem.

“BookMyShow has been a pioneer in delivering high-quality entertainment experiences in India,” Tanna said, adding that the platform could play an important role in India’s ambition to emerge as a global entertainment hub and a destination for leading artists and acts from across the world.

He further said KKR would bring its local knowledge, global investment experience and international network to support BookMyShow’s next stage of transformation and help enhance the experiences it offers audiences across India.

Ashish Hemrajani, Founder and CEO, BookMyShow, said the company was “delighted” to welcome KKR as an investor, citing the firm’s global perspective, consumer-business expertise and understanding of the market.

Hemrajani said the investment comes at a time when BookMyShow has significantly expanded its presence across the live entertainment landscape and sees growing opportunities in India’s entertainment economy.

He also acknowledged the continued support of BookMyShow’s existing investors, including Network18, part of Reliance Industries, Accel Partners, Elevation Capital, Stripes Group and TPG.
