Horlicks has entered the protein powder category with a new offering containing 24 g of fermented yeast protein and 4 g of prebiotic fibre per serving.

The product is available in three variants—Chocolate, Coffee and Unflavored—and comes in a 1 kg pack containing 28 single-serve sachets. It is now available across retail outlets and select online platforms in India.

The launch is built around the brand’s proposition, ‘Your Day Is the Real Workout’, which positions everyday activities such as commuting, working, carrying groceries and managing daily responsibilities as forms of physical exertion.

Rajneet Kohli, executive director, foods, Hindustan Unilever, said protein is a natural extension for Horlicks as consumer needs evolve. He added that the brand aims to make quality protein more accessible and easier to incorporate into everyday routines.

The product uses fermented yeast protein, which Horlicks says provides all nine essential amino acids. The finished formulation has a Protein Digestibility-Corrected Amino Acid Score (PDCAAS) of 1.0, a recognised measure of protein quality and digestibility.

The formulation also includes inulin, a prebiotic fibre, and papain, a plant-derived digestive enzyme intended to support protein digestion. The fermented yeast protein used in the product is naturally lactose-free.

Sujatha Jayaraman, vice president and head, foods R&D & regulatory affairs, Hindustan Unilever, said the formulation was developed with a focus not just on the quantity of protein but also its quality and completeness. She added that the combination of complete protein, prebiotic fibre and papain is intended to offer a science-led approach to everyday protein consumption.
