WhatsApp has introduced Meta Business Agent, an AI-powered solution designed to help businesses automate customer interactions and streamline day-to-day operations. The announcement was made at the third edition of Meta's annual Business Summit in Mumbai.
The tool enables businesses to respond to customer queries, recommend products from catalogues, schedule appointments, qualify leads and support sales conversations. Companies can also configure the system to transfer conversations to human representatives whenever required.
In addition to customer engagement, Meta Business Agent offers conversation summaries, customer insights and alerts on missed interactions, helping businesses monitor and manage operations more efficiently.
"India has emerged as one of the most dynamic markets for conversational business globally, with messaging becoming the preferred way for people and businesses to connect. As AI becomes more central to the transformation of the way businesses operate, Meta Business Agent represents the next step in that journey—helping businesses harness AI to strengthen customer relationships, improve efficiency, and unlock growth," said Arun Srinivas, managing director and country head, Meta India.
Alongside the launch, Meta also introduced the Meta Business Agent Platform for large enterprises. The platform allows organisations to build, customise and deploy AI-powered business agents at scale while integrating with existing enterprise systems such as Shopify, Zendesk and Shopee. It also works alongside the WhatsApp Business Platform.
Meta said companies including Swiggy, Madhulika Enterprises and Kaizen Adventours have already begun using the platform for applications ranging from customer support and lead management to operational workflows.
According to the company, future updates will also include new business discovery features on WhatsApp, enabling users to search for businesses by name within the app and share business profiles with friends and family.
