The Walt Disney Company has infused ₹123 crore into JioStar India through fresh foreign direct investment (FDI), further strengthening its financial commitment to the merged media entity in India, according to a report by The Economic Times.

The investment comes a few months after Disney invested ₹306 crore in JioStar India in April, following the creation of the Reliance-Disney joint venture. The merged company combines the media businesses of Reliance Industries and Disney across television, streaming and sports.

The latest funding adds to Disney's broader investment in its India operations. During FY25, the company infused ₹2,839 crore into Star India in the first quarter and another ₹1,008 crore in the third quarter through Star US Holdings Subsidiary LLC. Together, these investments amounted to ₹3,847 crore, making Disney the largest source of FDI in India's information and broadcasting sector during those quarters.

Data from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) showed that the information and broadcasting sector attracted ₹1,213 crore in foreign direct investment during the January-March quarter.

During the same period, the government also approved a ₹418 crore foreign investment in Zee Entertainment Enterprises by OFI Global China Fund LLC, highlighting sustained global investor interest in India's media and entertainment sector.
