As governments and institutions worldwide grapple with the future of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and digital governance, Dr. Rajendra Pratap Gupta, one of leading global voices from India in digital policy and AI, has been nominated by the Secretary-General of the United Nations to serve on the Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) of the United Nations Internet Governance Forum (IGF).
The Multistakeholder Advisory Group plays a pivotal role in advising the United Nations Secretary-General on global Internet governance and digital cooperation, while also helping shape the programme and strategic direction of the Internet Governance Forum, widely regarded as the world’s foremost platform for dialogue on the future of the Internet. Dr. Gupta has a rare distinction to be associated with and invited by all the multi-lateral bodies over the past decades.
Commenting on the nomination, Dr. Gupta said: “It is an honour to be nominated by the United Nations Secretary-General to serve on the MAG of the Internet Governance Forum at a time when the world is collectively shaping the future of the digital age. The decisions we make today around artificial intelligence, Internet governance, digital inclusion, and public trust will profoundly influence economies, societies, and human development for generations to come. Dr. Gupta has worked extensively with governments, multilateral institutions, academia, and industry leaders on digital transformation, AI adoption, Internet governance, and inclusive innovation.
In 2019, he contributed to the drafting of Bangladesh’s Artificial Intelligence policy framework at the invitation of the Office of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. He currently chairs the Commonwealth AI Consortium for Capacity Building, an initiative focused on strengthening AI readiness, policy frameworks, and institutional capabilities across nations.
He is also the creator of the “Functional AI Pyramid – The AI Maturity Model” and the architect of Project CREATE, a global initiative advocating technology-led inclusion and decentralized economic participation. Dr. Gupta currently serves in leadership roles across several global institutions and initiatives, including the Global Digital Health Summit, the Academy of Digital Health Sciences, Health Parliament, and multiple Dynamic Coalitions within the Internet Governance Forum ecosystem.
Through his work across policy, technology, and institutional ecosystems, Dr. Gupta has consistently advocated for digital governance frameworks rooted in inclusion, public trust, and equitable global participation.
His nomination to the MAG underscores the growing role of voices from the Global South in shaping the future of artificial intelligence, digital cooperation, and global Internet governance.
