Flipkart is stepping up its focus on quick commerce with the launch of a standalone app for Flipkart Minutes, ahead of its flagship Big Billion Days (BBD) sale.

The dedicated Minutes app is currently being tested on the Google Play Store and is expected to be rolled out more widely ahead of the annual shopping event. The move separates Flipkart's quick-commerce offering from its core e-commerce platform, giving Minutes a dedicated consumer interface as competition in the segment intensifies.

The standalone app comes as Flipkart looks to strengthen its presence in India's rapidly expanding quick-commerce market, where players are increasingly competing on delivery speed, assortment and customer convenience.

Alongside the Minutes app, Flipkart is also testing a food delivery service called Eat In in Bengaluru. The service is currently being trialled with a limited group of employees as the company evaluates the proposition.

Both initiatives come ahead of the BBD sale, one of Flipkart's biggest annual shopping events. While the company's core e-commerce business remains central to BBD, the latest moves indicate its broader push to build businesses beyond traditional online retail.

The standalone Minutes app, in particular, marks a sharper push into quick commerce at a time when consumer adoption of rapid-delivery platforms is growing and competition among established and emerging players continues to intensify.
