Excel Entertainment has expanded its entertainment portfolio with the launch of Excel Music, a dedicated music label backed by Universal Music Group (UMG) as a strategic shareholder and its marketing and distribution partner.

The label will make its debut with the soundtrack album of Mirzapur: The Movie, which is scheduled to hit cinemas on September 4, 2026. Its first single, featuring Haryanvi singer Dhanda in his Bollywood debut, is set to be released later this week.

Beyond music from Excel Entertainment's own productions, Excel Music will also collaborate with filmmakers and production houses across India to develop and release original film soundtracks and scores.

Commenting on the launch, Excel Entertainment founders Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar said music has always been an integral part of the company's creative vision. They described the launch of Excel Music as a natural extension of that journey and said the label would collaborate with leading creative talent to produce music that connects with audiences across generations.

Sanujeet Bhujabal, managing director, India & South Asia at Universal Music Group, said Excel Entertainment has shaped contemporary Hindi cinema through its storytelling over the past two decades. He added that UMG's partnership with Excel Music would combine its global artist roster, catalogue, marketing expertise and distribution capabilities to build a distinctive music destination for audiences in India and internationally.

With the launch of Excel Music, Excel Entertainment is broadening its footprint beyond film production into the music business, strengthening its presence across the entertainment value chain.
