A viral video from Ludhiana, Punjab, shows an MG Windsor electric vehicle moving on a road without anyone inside before colliding with a roadside vendor and subsequently crashing into a tree.
In the video, the vehicle can be seen travelling along the road while its owner walks alongside, warning people to move away. The man says that the car is locked and that he is unable to control its movement. The vehicle then hits a tree, with its front wheel appearing to turn erratically and smoke visible around the front section. Bystanders later intervene by breaking a side window in an attempt to stop the car.
The video does not establish what initially caused the vehicle to move. While some social media users speculated that an auto park-assist or another driver-assistance feature may have been involved, there was no confirmation of such a link in the material reviewed.
Following a technical assessment and physical inspection, JSW MG Motor said the vehicle was switched on and remained in Drive mode when the driver exited. According to the company, the seatbelt was engaged and the brake pedal was not applied.
The automaker said the vehicle's Creep Mode allowed it to move forward at a controlled, low speed without the accelerator being pressed. It added that the movement was consistent with the feature and that its assessment found no product-related issue.
The company also said it remains in contact with the customer and is assisting him in understanding the vehicle's features and their correct usage.
