The first set of shortlists for the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2026 has been announced, marking the opening phase of one of the global advertising industry’s most closely watched awards cycles.
This initial release covers three of the festival’s most prestigious categories — the Dan Wieden Titanium Lions, Glass: The Lion for Change, and Innovation Lions. Together, these awards recognise work that pushes the boundaries of creativity, cultural impact, and technological innovation.
However, no Indian campaigns have been shortlisted in any of the three categories announced so far.
The Dan Wieden Titanium Lions celebrate breakthrough creativity that challenges and reshapes industry thinking. Glass: The Lion for Change honours work that addresses issues of bias and inequality and drives meaningful cultural progress. The Innovation Lions recognise pioneering solutions that blend creativity with technology to solve real-world problems.
While the absence of Indian entries in this initial round may appear disappointing, industry observers note that these categories represent the most demanding tier of creative ambition at Cannes, typically reserved for work that delivers category-defining or industry-shifting impact on a global scale.
The broader competition is far from complete. Shortlists across the remaining categories — including Film, Print, Outdoor, Digital Craft, Direct, PR, Social & Creator, Brand Experience, and more — will be released in phases between June 20 and June 26, ahead of the festival.
India has historically demonstrated strong performance across these categories, particularly in storytelling-driven and craft-focused work, and expectations remain high as the remaining lists are unveiled.
In a positive development for representation, India also has a strong presence on the Shortlisting Jury for Cannes Lions 2026, with seven industry leaders contributing to the evaluation and selection process. This reflects the growing influence of Indian creative leadership in shaping global standards of advertising excellence.
The 73rd edition of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is scheduled to take place from June 22 to 26 in Cannes, France.
For now, the initial tally remains open, with anticipation building as the remaining shortlists are announced over the coming days.
