Apple is reportedly planning to introduce advertising within its Maps platform, signalling a potential shift in how users interact with the navigation service.
According to a report by Bloomberg, the company could announce the feature as early as this month, with ads expected to begin appearing later this summer. If implemented, the update would bring Apple Maps closer to competitors such as Google Maps, which already offers sponsored listings.
The proposed model would allow businesses to bid for visibility within search results. For instance, when users look up restaurants, shops, or other services, promoted listings could appear at the top, giving advertisers priority placement.
This system is expected to function similarly to ads on the Apple App Store, where developers pay to feature their apps prominently. In the case of Maps, brands and retailers would compete for placement tied to relevant search queries.
Reports suggest that ads could be integrated across Apple Maps on iPhones, other Apple devices, and its web version, offering businesses broader reach within Apple’s ecosystem.
The development may also tie into Apple’s upcoming WWDC 2026, where the company could potentially share more details about its advertising plans.
